The Haven Conference Detroit Recap

I still cannot believe we have hosted two conferences now and are planning our third, and let me tell you what The Haven Conference in Detroit, Michigan did not disappoint! If you have never heard of The Haven Conference, it is a one day event for female entrepreneurs to gather, learn about different topics and create community with one another.

The vision for this conference stemmed for me feeling lonely in this Michigan entrepreneur space and wanting to find like-minded people. And when I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I created it. Scroll below to see all the photos captured from the day!

Instead of have pre-made swag bags for the attendees as they arrived I wanted to make it a bit more interactive and created this Build Your Own Swag Bar. It was a major hit and I loved how the attendees got to take items they actually wanted instead of getting a bag full of stuff they may only use half of.

Another fun detail we did different at this Haven Conference was a book swap. A month before the conference I was in my office (aka guest bedroom with a desk) looking at a massive stack of business and self development books I had already read that were just collecting dust. I wanted to get them in the hands of others that needed them and could use them so I decided to create a book swap at Haven.

Everyone brought a business or self development book they loved, left it on the table and picked up one in the pile that spoke to them. Any books that were left over (which weren’t many) were donated. This was so fun and another crowd favorite.

As attendees walked through the door they were greeted by Scout at Stock Bridge Design Co. (also a member of #TeamStellaluna) hang lettering their name tag. The name tags were so pretty and fun, but I did not consider how long it would take for them to dry, so a few people had to go grab a cup of coffee before picking up their name tag. Opps! Lesson learned.

We kicked off the day by me (Brooke) sharing some opening remarks and getting real and honest right off the bat. After I shared our “housekeeping notes” we moved into Kalin presenting on social media, by doing the “Truth Hurts” edition. If you know or have ever heard Kalin speak before, you know this was hilarious, honest and so valuable.

After Kalin, I jumped back up to talk all about community, tribe and business besties. A LOT of the attendees told me on the survey that they wanted to connect with each other, but found it hard/awkward to make the initial connection. So we had everyone split off into groups based on their business experience level and chat through a struggle they were experiencing in their business.

At the haven conference we try to focus on community and want anyone who attendees to walk away with a new tribe and support system they can call on at anytime – so this exercise was perfect and aligned with our mission greatly. The conversations got so deep/long that instead of breaking for lunch, we all grabbed a quick plate of food and continued to chat with each other.

And of course we cannot forget about the headshots. Look at these gorgeous, beautiful and bad ass women. I’m so proud of them all!

After lunch Cat kicked us off with a little dance party to get the blood flowing and bodies moving. Cat chatted with the crew all about niching down on what you offer and it was so fun and interesting to listen to what she had to say.

After Cat, Lauren (coming all the way from San Diego, California) took the “stage” and talked about the importance of staying in your lane and doing what feels right to you. Lauren is also coach helping women in their business using Human Design so throughout the day and VIP welcome party Lauren was doing Human Design readings and teaching the attendees how to leverage that in their business.

For our final session we had Kerry talk all about mental health and wellness as an entrepreneur. I’ve heard Kerry talk about this stuff many times now and I always have a new “ah-ha” moment when I hear her speak.

I talk a lot about how self-development is a muscle – you have continue to exercise it to make it strong. So that’s why I love having Kerry close us out, so we are reminded to work that muscle out.

Before we all parted ways we enjoyed a little wine, beer and kombucha while we munched on a charcuterie board and said our goodbyes.

Brooke Dumas

Brooke is a Retreat & Experience Planner who helps business coaches, entrepreneurs & spiritual leaders create, plan and execute retreats all across the world. After opening her wedding planning business, Stellaluna Events, in 2016 and serving couples all across Michigan, Brooke felt a call to serve entrepreneurs through events.
