The Haven Conference West Olive Recap
I’m beyond excited today to share the recap of The Haven Conference for entrepreneurs recap of our very first West Olive, Michigan conference! If you’re reading this and are new to conference allow me to tell you a little about it. The Haven Conference is a one day event geared towards entrepreneurs that we focus on the things that really drive your business and success forward.
I often tell people that if you are looking for a “marketing 101” or “introduction to business bookkeeping” conference, this is not the event for you. We focus the day on visualizing the life you want, what a 6+ figure mindset looks like, telling your story and making money doing it, abundance and money mindset, health and wellness as an entrepreneur and most importantly tribe.
One of the key pieces of The Haven Conference is finding a community or tribe of entrepreneurs that are going to push you and hold you accountable for making your dreams happen. What I found so interesting is that many of the entrepreneurs that walked into The Haven Conference thought they already had a community and didn’t need to build a new tribe. But towards the end so many came up to me and said they didn’t realize how bad they needed a new tribe and they found it at the conference.
My favorite thing I heard from one of the attendees was this..
“I have spent over $10,000 on conference, workshops, retreats, live events, etc. over the years and nothing has matched this one. This was the event that I didn’t even realize how badly I needed!”
The day started with registration where each attendee was handed a custom Under The Tin Roof tote bag with a few goodies. Inside were some mushroom coffee samples from our friends at Four Sigmatic, an Action Tracker notepad from Kiloh & Co. so attendees can keep up on their goals/progress, a homemade lavender lip balm from Shades of Lavender Farm, and last but not least a custom Haven Conference logo shirt from The Mitten Print Shop.
Once attendees check-in and grabbed their swag bags and name badges they headed upstairs for a little networking breakfast. One part every attendee loved about our venue, Camp Blodgett in West Olive, Michigan, was the gorgeous views of Lake Michigan all day!
Once we started the general sessions it felt like the day flew by even though it was a 9 hour day. I started off the day with some opening remarks and dug right into visualizing a life you are unapologetic for and some tips of how to achieve it. I had Kerry of Reset Brain and Body step in and lead a visualization meditation so the attendees could see what endless possibilities their life could bring.
After our first session we took a quick break before Amanda spoke. Amanda of Kiloh & Co. and Amanda Adamcheck spoke all about mindset and how you need to shift your mindset to achieve the life that you want to live. She also walked the attendees through a few written exercises to help them identify limiting beliefs and things that are holding them back from achieving their goals.
Then right after Amanda we dove into Kalin of Sweetwater Floral talking all about how to tell your story and make money doing it. If you don’t follow Kalin and her daily instagram stories, do yourself a favor and do it now! This girl is funny, real and doesn’t hold back any of the raw stuff. She talked about how she navigated talking through some of the hard stuff like multiple miscarriages to talking about the joyful stuff like being pregnant with a healthy baby. She also talked about how she makes the majority of her money on Instagram by being herself. Attendees had lots of questions for her, which lead perfectly into lunch time discussions.
Since West Olive isn’t close to any restaurants for attendees to head out and grab their own lunch we had lunch catered in by The Farmhouse Deli and let me tell you they killed it! I giggled as I read the surveys after the conference and amongst many other things the delicious food was a big mention in almost every survey. Once, attendees finished their lunch many of us headed out to the deck overlooking Lake Michigan to soak up the sun while some headed to the beach to get their headshot. It was such a beautiful day and I wished we could have had the whole conference outside.
Before we started the afternoon sessions we did a little dancing to get our energy up with DJ Matt at 27 Entertainment. If I can give any piece of advice to anyone hosting a conference is bring on a hype man to pump of the crowd and one that gets the vibe too. Everyone loved #DJMatt and his energy and he actively took part in the day taking notes and asking questions just like the rest of the attendees.
After lunch, headshots and basking in the sun we jumped into the money mindset and finance talk with Britt of Brittney and The Benjamins. Britt is actually my CPA so I was so excited to bring her in from Indianapolis to talk about why you should be unapologetic about making more money and how to have a strong money mindset. Many of our attendees had more technical questions about taxes, bookkeeping, LLCs, etc. during the Q&A, which was nice having a CPA present to answer them all.
After a quick break we started our final session of the day with Kerry of Reset Brain and Body talking to us all about health, wellness and the mental game we call entrepreneurship. What I love about Kerry is she totally does things her own way. She decided to have all the attendees move from neat rows to a big circle around the whole room, while she sat cross legged on the stage with them. It created such an intimate and safe environment, while talking about some really hard stuff.
Kerry was able to help attendees identify when they were getting in their own head and were sabotaging themselves. She talked about what actually happens when you stop taking care of your mental and physical health and how that drastically affects your success. If you don’t know the majority of the successful million/billionaires in this world make health and wellness a non negotiable. The exercise, meditate, eat healthy and clean, drink the water every freaking day. They talk to a therapist regularly and take care of their “mental hygiene” as Kerry called it. She ended her chat by taking all the attendees outside on the deck and taking them through a short exercise to get their endorphins up.
After Kerry’s much needed chat we moved into cocktail hour were we had a gorgeous charcuterie board, beer and wine for attendees to sip and snack on while visiting before saying farewell. Before we knew it the day was over and we were packing up and heading home.
There were so many amazing takeaways from the day, which I will share soon, but I think the biggest was how important tribe is. I am so grateful for our new found #HavenTribe and I am beyond excited to grow that tribe at The Haven Conference in Detroit on November 5, 2019!
